At Oriel, we were delighted to celebrate the European Day of Languages on Friday 26th September, an annual event that shines a light on the importance of language learning, cultural diversity, and tolerance across Europe and beyond. The day reminds us that languages open doors – to understanding, to friendship, and to appreciating the richness of cultures around us.
To mark the occasion, our students took part in special assemblies exploring the purpose of this celebration and reflecting on the value of diversity within our school community. The highlight of the weekend was our very first Oriel European Bake-Off competition, which brought an incredible display of creativity (and deliciousness!) into school on Monday morning.
The photos attached speak for themselves – cakes inspired by countries all across Europe (and even further afield) filled the Languages Office with colour, imagination, and flavour. Students – with fantastic support from parents – truly outdid themselves, showing dedication and joy in celebrating languages and cultures through baking.
Our inaugural Oriel European Bake-Off was a resounding success, and we can’t wait to see what next year brings!
