GCSE Results Day – Thursday 25th August

We will distribute GCSE results to students from 11am on Thursday 25th August 2022. We are staggering the times at which students should attend. These times are dictated by surname. The timings are as follows:

Surname beginning with Collection time
A-G11:00
H-O11.30
P-Z12.00

When arriving to collect results students should enter the school building via the main reception to collect results which will be distributed in the Hall.

Should you have pre-arranged with the exams office for someone other than yourself to collect results on their behalf please ensure that the person collecting brings appropriate identification such as a bank card or driving licence.

On the day students will be able to confirm their place at Oriel Sixth Form. To confirm their place students must speak to a member of the Sixth Form team (Mrs Denman, Mrs Bates & Mr Withell) when they collect their results. Should a student wish to make a late application after receiving their results they should speak to a member of the Sixth Form team who will be able to advise them of their next steps.

Members of staff will be on hand to ensure that individual students are able to have any necessary conversations to assist them in their progression to the next steps of their education, employment or training.

Regards

Mr Matthews

Sports Day 2021 Update

Due to circumstances beyond our control, Sports Day will now be held at Oriel High School on the field.

Students that are competing will be required to attend mentor at 8.20, where they will be shown a PowerPoint of how the day will unfold.

Unfortunately, due to the adaptations we have made, we will no longer be able to host parents, we hope that you understand our decision.

All students regardless of whether they are competing in sports day or not will be required to wear their PE kit.

Students competing will need to bring the following:

  • Full and correct PE kit
  • A packed lunch and plenty of fluids for the day
  • A sunhat and sun cream

We will be putting up gazebo’s to help provide shade for the students that will be outside all day. The school timings will be as normal and school and school sports day will finish at 2.40.

22nd Feb No Longer An Inset Day

Monday 22nd Feb will not be an Inset day and will instead be a normal school day in terms of live lessons and work setting.

Using PlayStation or Xbox to access online learning

If you are in need of additional digital devices in your home to allow everybody to get on with their work each day, your child could access their remote learning via a PlayStation 4 (or newer model) or an Xbox One (or newer model).  All you will need is a keyboard and a mouse as this will be easier than using a console controller. Headphones with a microphone enable your child to speak to their teacher, however they are optional as there is a chat function within Teams where students are able to type messages.

Just plug in the keyboard and mouse and go to games and apps where you will find your internet browser.

Now all your child needs to do is to search for Office 365 and log in through their school account and they are ready to go.

Xbox

  1. Plug a keyboard in to the Xbox USB slot
  2. Go in to my games and apps
  3. Find Microsoft Edge and select
  4. Type in ‘Microsoft teams’ and login to your account using your username and password
  5. You can then access all the online content for home learning and watch live sessions
  6. To move around you use the Xbox controller or plug in a mouse
  7. Use a headset to interact if you have one

PlayStation

  1. Plug a keyboard in to the Playstation USB slot
  2. Identify the PlayStation internet browser icon (it is WWW with dots around it)
  3. Press the PlayStation logo on the controller
  4. Go to the library and find options for games and applications
  5. Go in to applications and you will find the internet browser
  6. Type in ‘Microsoft teams’ into the browser and login to your account using your username and password.
  7. You can then access all the online content for home learning and watch live sessions
  8. To move around you use the Playstation controller or plug in a mouse
  9. Use a headset to interact if you have one

Please remember, your child must access Show My Homework/Satchel One each day where they will find instructions about their lessons. As Show My Homework/Satchel One is online this can also be accessed via the internet browser on your Playstation/Xbox.

Please contact our IT Services department via itservices@oriel.w-sussex.sch.uk if you require the loan of a keyboard and/or mouse.
